2+AKI- worth....
been redrawing the elec. schematic of a 73 BGT in
OrCad Schematics Capture Program. The fuel pump
(stock setup) connects the fuel pump to a common
ground point (4 point bullet connector) where the
right rear side marker, tail light and reverse
lights all come together for a common negative
return. This common ground point is a eyelet on
black wires that is under one of the mounting nuts
on the right rear taillight. Connect this to
ground and the pump runs fine.

+AD4-Paul,
+AD4-
+AD4-I do know about the ground with the rear lights.
I made a point of
+AD4-attaching this to the grounding point before
starting the car. What caught
+AD4-me off guard was that, even with the ground wires
firmly attached to the
+AD4-grounding point, the car still wouldn't run with
the tail lights removed.
+AD4-Only when I loosely installed them and connected
the three wires (red,
+AD4-green and green/purple, I recall) did the car
start.
+AD4-
+AD4-This tells me that there is something in the
electrical circuit, other than
+AD4-the ground (black) wires, that is needed for the
fuel pump to work.
+AD4-
+AD4-Regards,
+AD4-Scott

+AD4APg- +AD4- Scott,
+AD4APg- +AD4- I had a similar situation with a car with
the lisence bracket removed.
+AD4APg- +AD4- The pump wouldn't work until the bracket was
attached.
+AD4APg- +AD4- I finally traced it back to an after market
fuel pump, which was not
+AD4APg- +AD4- internally grounded, and the DPO had run the
ground wire up to the
+AD4-ground
+AD4APg- +AD4- for the liscence plate lamps.
+AD4APg- +AD4- Why he used 4 feet of wire and went toall
that trouble, I'll never
+AD4APg- +AD4- understand.
+AD4APg- +AD4- Oh, I grounded the little sucker to the pump
mounting bracket. end of
+AD4APg- +AD4- problem
+AD4APg-
+AD4APg- All years of MGB, as far as I can tell, were
built with the pump grounded
+AD4-in the
+AD4APg- boot with the rear lights.
