Having a car with a generator and slightly more powerful than stock 
headlights, I've tried to keep the idle up at about 800 rpm to avoid 
seeing the ignition light at night at stoplights.  The top end for 
me, not having an anti-run on valve, is about 900 rpm--above that, it 
diesels/runs on something awful.
