I have sprayed a few of the "big knockers" '74-1/2 rubber over-riders and a pair
of full rubber bumpers with flat black paint. Rustoleum right out of the 1-qt
can works in my gun, but you can thin it. It has a lot of carbon black in it and
remains flexible as it ages so it doesn't seem to want to crack or peel; just be
sure you clean off any oily treatments such as ArmourAll before painting. To be
sure, prime the bumpers first. After the paint cures for a few weeks the painted
bumpers can be treated with ArmourAll if you like the new rubber look. None of
this will hurt the rubber; it was all vulcanized back then.
