Alternator Question - igntion light

Hi Folks,

Again - help please from the list.

Just back from my 84 mile commute with the ignition light on - first
time I have seen this - It is dim until you rev up - then it gets
brighter - brighter with lights on at speed - but drop the revs even
with the lights on and it gets dim!

New alternator?

Advice as always much appreciated
