As long as there is sound metal at points of contact with other structural
portions of the floor a fiberglass repair can extend the life for years
without weakening the body. This requires that there is good adhesion to the
remaining floor and that you put on a heavy enough fiberglass covering. This
is not a 10 minute job. Plan to spend half of a day cleaning the old pan and
be generous with the fiberglass fabric. To obtain the best result the ratio
of resin to glass should be 30% resin 70% glass. Resin rich laminates
although easier to apply are less strong. Always wet out the surface before
applying the glass.
If anyone has specific questions about working with fiberglass, ask. This
was my business for several years.
