I just did some rudimentary tests on my rolling chassis.
First, with car still on four stands under suspension components, I put a
floor jack under the frame rail on the front and lifted. The whole side of
the car came up without creaking or visible flexing. OK. I put the car
down but left one stand under one side of the front suspension. bounced the
body diagonally and it felt solid. Then, car back on the ground, I stood on
the sill with the door closed and jumped up and down lightly and observed
the gap betweent the door and the body, it decreased noticably with the
downward force. I then put the floor jack under the central cross member
behind the jacking point and lifted the side of the car. Gap increases in
size by approx. 1/16".
Also, i filed off one of the rust bubbles and found shiny metal underneath.
Does bubbling always start from the inside?
Any help appreciated in interpreting these tests. Recall that the engine is
out of the car, making it much lighter.
thanks
