I have an engine partially apart for a paint job. Just have the covers off,
oil pan, etc... couldhave it all back together in a half hour so thats an
option... but anyway its greasy and nasty on the outside. Whatever I use to
clean the engine, some of the cleaner will make its way into the engine.
This is even with it totally assembled. You can never adequately plug a
square exhaust port! So, if I bath the engine in kerosene, and the kerosene
makes its way into oil passeges, or even down in the cylinders, does this
matter? Being a degreaser I would suspect yes! But being a petrol-product
I'd say no... Either way I think this is safer to the engine (if not safer
in general!) than using simple green and water. I suspect professional
engine rebuilders dont care because they are tearing the engine down all the
way anyway, but this old things only has picked up 35,000 miles since 1959
and only needs new seals and paint.
