For many years before I could afford both the rim and spare for a
boat trailer, I carried a new tube and a 12 volt air compressor. 
Instead of the compressor, you can get a spark plug air
injector.  That's what my brother carries on his motorcycle.  He
has a fancy unit which I THINK somehow doesn't use the fuel air
mix from the cylinder as it draws its air from outside.

If you have tubeless tires, I would carry a tubeless tire repair
kit and the "inflate a spare".  This is a tool for inserting and
gluing rubber plugs into the tire and then inflate the tire with
the "Spare in a Can".  I've used this proceedure on tubeless
tires on the riding mower with good success.
