The Ilmor Mercedes motor was designed by two former employees of Cosworth.
I say was because the newest generation of motors produced by Ilmor
Engineering is only done under the guidance of one of its founders, as the
other died last summer in a plane crash (think it was Paul MORgan).

Cosworth was split in the mid 1990s, half to Ford half to Audi/VW.  The Ford
half still produces the F1 motors, current incarnation being the R3 motor to
be found in the 2002 Jaguar F1 car and the 2002 Arrows F1 car.
