Doesn't the 70 have the brake light switch in the hydraulic line and not the
pedal box? My 73 does. With the hydraulic type it has been said many times
that silicone brake fluid causes premature failure of the switch. No harm
in cleaning up the grounds for the rear light clusters (which is via the
mechanical fixings not a ground wire), but as long as only one of the lights
in the cluster is being used at any one time they will work, which is a bit
more diagnosis for you.
