IF (and it's a bif 'if') the 81B and the 85 LEB refer to the year of
manufacture then the later the year the higher the output if they are MGB
alts.  It is a combination of things that result in the max current that can
be drawn, there is no current regulator as such.  The Workshop Manual
describes a method of testing the maximum current, by disabling the voltage
regulator and putting a very high-wattage variable resistor and ammeter on
the output and reducing the resistance.  The current should increase then
stabilise at the max rated output of the alt.  Gotta be brave, though...
