This doubtless was due to the fact that MG didn't get to design their own
engines in the post-war period, but was stuck with whatever BMC's
bean-counters doled out (except for the Twincam project, and look where that
got them). As for BMC design competence, well, the less said the better.
Their subsequent history pretty much tells the tale.
