I also did this conversion on my '80 MGB, going from a Weber DGV to dual
HIF4's. I wound up using the conical K&N air filters, along with thinner
spacer blocks and shorter mounting studs for the carbs, and a little grinding
so the linkage wouldn't hit the heat shield when accelerating. I picked up a
supposedly rebuilt set of carbs on eBay, and then had them rebuilt by Lawrie,
after which they worked very well. My Weber had a manual choke, so that
transferred over pretty easily. I replaced the exhaust (rusty) with a Peco
header and exhaust, which is louder than I'd like, but the center muffler I
ordered from Proper MG in September still hasn't arrived (it's on the next
boat, or maybe the one after that, really!).

The car seems a lot peppier now, although the car was easier to start cold with
the Weber DGV.

If you want to see a picture, try http://www.shoyer.com/mgb/sucarbs.htm. The
"final" configuration actually looks better than this (no more red heater
hose), but it isn't significantly different. I got a lot of advice from people
on the list; thanks again to all.
