Any normal wear *after* the hydraulics i.e. the slave piston, clutch fork,
release bearing, friction plate should be automatically compensated for by
the hydraulics - specifically the position of the slave piston in its
cylinder. But wear in the mechanicals *before* the hydraulics i.e. the
pedal, clevis pin and MC pushrod will cause low clutch engagement, but also
short travel of the slave piston. As previously advised you appear to have
a mechanical problem inside the bell-housing.

But the previously described self-adjusting hydraulics should have taken all
this up. Have someone push the pedal while you watch underneath. Does that
take up the play and push the fork against the pressure of the diaphragm
spring? When the pedal is released what happens to the slave piston and
fork? The piston should only go back until all the pressure of the
diaphragm spring is released, and that should leave minimal play in the
release fork. If you immediately have that 1" of play back again, then have
you got some kind of return spring somewhere that is pulling the fork that
1" off the release bearing and pushing the slave piston further into its
cylinder than it should be? However if you push the fork by hand you *will*
be able to force the slave piston further into its cylinder.
