Chuck:

        You figured it out.  Early cars have the copper washer, later cars
have the cup and rubber seal.

I'm a proponent of "if it's not broke, don't fix it"

Removing and reinstalling the pilot bush can be a tricky job.  The bush is a
press fit, so it should not be easy to remove.  I would only do so if the
bush is damaged, or excessively worn.  Inspect the bush, if it is in the
least bit questionable, then replace with one of the same length.
