Thanks to everyone who responded to my post about having a high idle after
rebuilding the carbs.
The consensus was that the butterflys are drawing air through them somehow
since spraying carb cleaner around the area reveals no air leakages. I
pulled the carbs and shined a light through them in a dark room. The only
light showing through the throttle plate is a small amount on each carb
where the bushing, throttle shaft, and butterfly meet. The new bushes that I
installed were about 3/4 inch long (in Moss rebuild kit) and did not reach
all the way through the body of the carb so I aligned them with the outside
of the body on each side. Therefore there is a small gap between the
throttle plate and the indented bush where there is a small amount of light
showing through on each side of each carb. Is this enough to bring the idle
up to about 2500 RPM with butterflies closed? When rebushed do the inside
edges of the bushes normally have to be filed to conform to the curvature of
the inside of the carb?
If so, instead of rebushing can I fill this small area between the new bush
and the inside curvature of the carb with epoxy, liquid metal, or something
and then carefully file it down?
