I work live theater for a living. One day several years ago when I still
had the yellow car running, I was at work and needed to lower the orchestra
pit. I didn't have my theater keys on me at the time and the lock on the
switch felt a little loose, so I went through my personal keys and found my
gas cap key from the yellow car would run the pit lift. From there I found
that the key that ran the acoustic curtains would fit my ignition and then
eventually found I could start my car with a screwdriver in the ignition
lock. Even now on the red car I can take the keys out of the ignition
switch with the car running, open the glove box and put them back in. I
have to momentarily turn the car off to have it seat right, though. I've
gone through several replacement ignition switches for being dodgy and keep
going back to the one that doesn't lock because it works. It's the only one
out of four or five that's actually a Lucas part.
