You know, this deal with the old gasoline and cigarette trick reminds me
of one of my late father's friends back when I was a kid. He thought it
was hilarious to walk toward a new oilfield worker while carrying a
wooden box of dynamite, trip and drop it right in front of the new hand.
The problem with this is that if the box has been lying around for a
long time without being tuned over regularly, the nitro can seep out of
the sawdust or other packing and, if dropped, leave a large hole in the
ground and various organic mists in the air.
The old guy knew this, about turning it regularly, but after he retired,
the guy who wanted to scare the new hands with the old trick, didn't.
