I have to do this but on my V8 with twin SUs to meet hydrocarbons 1200 and
CO 4.5, which makes for poor pickup at any speed unless I give it plenty of
throttle. I do just weaken the mixture slightly from its ideal running of
about 6 or 7 CO using a Gunsons Gastester. It isn't accurate but its error
does seem to be consistent, I get a print-out from the testing station each
year to confirm, then adjust it back. As well as weakening the mixture
slightly for the test I also have the idle revs higher than spec anyway and
find this helps reduce CO. One thing I have noticed is that the
hydrocarbons vary wildly from year to year - some years being as low as 400
and others only just inside the 1200, I don't know why.
