I think the article was highlighting "cars that might
appreciate". The GT has a couple of serious selling
points over the roadster when it comes to
collectibility:

1) It's just flat out gorgeous. Maybe the
best-looking car MG ever built. A true British Grand
Touring car in the mold of the Aston Martin DB4, only
far more affordable to buy and maintain.

2) GTs have been somewhat unloved for a long time, so
many of them have rusted away or been destroyed. So
unlike the roadsters, there are not comparatively few
of them. Still a lot, don't get me wrong, but fewer
than there once were.

Then again, this is all just my $0.02. But it's
interesting, because as I was watching the
Barrett-Jackson auction, I was thinking "If I won the
Barrett-Jackson $50k contest, and I was bidding at
least partly to buy a car as a long-term investment,
what would I buy?" All the usuals came to mind -
Austin-Healey 3000, Series I Jaguar E-Type coupe,
Maserati Ghibli, etc. But one of the other cars I
would probably look at is an MGC GT. MGCs are getting
increasingly rare, and in GT form, I think they are
simply wonderful, classic, lusty British GT cars. And
I wouldn't be surprised to see MGB GTs (and MGC GTs in
particular) really start to shoot up in value over the
next decade or so.

But then again, the best advice is "buy a car because
you love it. If you end up making some money on it,
great! But don't buy a car to make money first,
because you probably won't..."
