I think Norm just answered your question. The rear quarter window areas
of the top will flex outward when the side brackets are tightened. This
will lower the top and reduce the gap above the windows.

BTW. I have a set of mounting brackets on order for myself from Moss
UK. I'll take a look at the quality and check out pricing. Hopefully
they will reasonable enough to make fabrication not worth while.

Norm: I didn't know that the tops were serial numbered. I'll have to
look for the numbers on mine, when I get a chance. Unfortunately two of
them are in deep storage and would be tough to get to.

No, I haven't fitted any side brackets to the top yet. I set the top on
car to size the brackets for fabrication, but when it was so far from
I decided not to "build" the brackets. Kelvin suggested that the seals
just need to settle in, but I can't imagine them settling that much.

  I bought a factory ht in 1994 when I had my 1980 B. When I sold the
'80 B,
the top stayed for use on my 1966 B. It is still on the '66. (See: And, it
both very well.

You say you didn't have the side brackets when you brought it home.
you fitted them yet? Those brackets will pull the top down a lot. You
also want to look at some of the aftermarket rubber seal suppliers. I
some weatherstripping from Steele to fit the edge of the top where the
touch. It forms an excellent seal. The only additional sealing I had
to do
on the '80 was at the lower rear part of the window where it didn't
quite seal
completely. A small piece of adhesive-backed weatherstripping from the
hardware store solved the problem.

So, bottom line - the factory top WILL fit both CB & RB cars.

BTW, I'm assuming yours is a real factory top, not a look-a-like.

That brings up an interesting question - does anyone know what
numbered tops
were made in which years? The factory tops had serial numbers. And,
like our
cars, they may have sequences that relate to certain years.
