In that case something connected to the purple circuit is taking current all
the time. Normally this is things like courtesy lights, horns, headlamp
flasher, seat-belt warning, cigar lighter and clock but can also be
aftermarket alarms (which can be significant) and stereos (which should be
microscopic). On a standard 1980 only the clock should be drawing current
when parked.
Be careful using an ammeter to measure drain, you can cause shorts and
arcing. Safer to switch it to its 12v range (on an analogue instrument
anyway, digital may give different results according to model). If there is
any voltage shown at all there is a drain, but anything less than 12v
indicated shows it is very small.
