I bought my '63 +4 in November, and you may find my experience of
value:

I've been wanting one since I was in college (many, many moons ago),
and now that the kids are in college and I can play again, I decided
to go for it. First I contacted ISIS of San Francisco. A new 4/4
(propane) was $39,000, a +8 $59,000 (gas). There was a 6 month wait
for the +8 and the 4/4 was available now. A California dealer who
specialised in Mogs had several used ones in the $25,000-$49,000
range and in pretty good shape, having been restored within the past
5 years. Most had TR3 or TR4 engines and were 59-65 models. The
dropheads were the expensive ones. I kept on looking and found a
roadster in excellent mechanical shape, a new paint job, and a decent interior
with a $20,000 asking price. I bought it for $18,000. It's a 63 +4
with a TR3 engine in it (sorry Will, but I agree that a 63-67 model
with a TR engine is your best bet). I've put in several hours of
work and about $1,000 more to bring it up to a very nice looking,
reliable machine. I've put over 2,500 miles in it in the last six
months without problems. No offense to those owning current models,
but nothing can beat the charm and looks of pre-67 machines. I've
been having a ball with it and have absolutely no regrets!

By the way, is anyone going to Mog West in Cambria, CA July 12-14?
I'm really looking forward to seeing many Mogs competing and showing
off in the biggest Mog Fest in the West. Perhaps I will see some of
you there.
