my grinding noise (and welcome to it)

Fellow moggers:

A member of my local car-guy support group suggests that my grinding noise
(only heard when the clutch pedal is depressed) may, alternatively, simply
be lack of lubricant on the pilot bushing. He suggests that the sound might
be more shrill than what I'm describing. He hasn't had a chance to come
over and listen. I still think its the release bearing. How likely is it
that my pilot bushing suddenly is sans grease? Seems unlikely to me. Any
comments? Don't get me wrong: I'd prefer the easier/cheeper repair, but I'm
about ready to order a new release bearing and probably a new armature as
well. Regardless, it sounds like I can still make the drive to NJ in this
car later in the year (?) w/o worry.

comments/flames/donations?

yours in Mogs,
Will Zehring
