Hi Alan,

15 years! Suddenly I feel better about the 10 years spent so far on my 4/4
Series 1. I'll let you know how I get on in 5 years time.

This sidedness only applies to Rudge Hubs (wire wheels with the big centre
locking nut). These centre nuts or spinners have right hand threads on one
side of the car and left hand threads on the other. The idea is that when
the car is travelling forward the nuts have the tendancy to tighten rather
than loosen. The manufactures of the centre hubs have the good sense to
stamp R and L in large letters in the castings. This has not prevented the
odd(?) mechanic switching them round with sometimes dramatic results.

The guy who last did some work on my rear axle was one of these afore
mentioned odd machanics. Fortunately I checked before refitting the axle.
