You're right. There is not much out there that cools better than
straight water as far as heat transfer goes. A little "water wetter",
which is nothing more than a surfactant to make the water contact the
metal parts of the cooling sytem a bit better, won't hurt any either.
The big advantages of the 100% propylene glycol systems are the lack of
hot spots, the advantages of running higher temps and the lack of a
pressurized cooling system. These apparently outstrip the disadvantage
of some loss of heat transfer capability - at least for NASCAR
It would be fun to experiment with this system in a Morgan. I may just
install an accurate digital temperature gauge and play around with some
cooling experiments this summer.
