Be very very careful in buying parts or gearboxes through Land Rover
dealers in Canada or the United States. A New Jersey Land Rover
specialist will sell a basic R380 for 4000.00 US (a price they gave me
in October of 1999 and the Canadian dealers asked for more at $7200C.
Even the parts are priced crazily, with a third gear alone costing 450
US. This is the price you can buy a whole reconditioned Rover 5 gearbox
from a prominent UK source with a 1 year warranty.
If you want to go super up-scale you can buy a 2001 R380s (much better
than the L77 or the original R380) from the Morgan factory directly for
1600 US dollars and it can be transported to your doorstep for another
$225.00. That will be a saving of 55% or $2200US and more!

The US makes fabulous parts that can be used on our cars and I am all
for that...but don't get ripped off on the UK imports.
