I was disappointed with the lack of a build sheet in the Chevy
Restoration
package. Ford keeps such records, and if you send them your serial number
(even back to the first decade of this century!) and some cash, they will send
you a photocopy of the original build sheet, invoice to the dealer or
distributor or whatever they have in the archives.
GM keeps such records as well. When I bought my '39 Caddie Coupe some
years
ago, I sent Cadillac $35 and they sent me a very similar package to the
package that Chevy sends out. The important difference is the build sheet.
What sort of information can you find out from a build sheet? For example, my
Coupe was built for export on the heavy duty convertible frame. It was
originally painted a dark blue and upholstered in tan Bedford Cord. It had
Cadillac's deluxe push button radio, but only a manual antenna. It was picked
up at the factory by GM Mexico. There were many other such details, all
itemized and charged out, I know exactly what Caddie charged the distributor.
Our trucks should have similar info available somewhere. I know my '51
was
painted a dark blue, but what was it called? Was it fitted with a radio?
Inquiring minds want to know!
