I've learned the hard way through some serious street machine builds, and a
drag racing endeavor, that experimentation into what gives you the most
"bang" for your buck is fun, but very costly. Building a great engine
combination involves selecting the correct "combination" of parts to achieve
your goals. For the best performance, be it mileage performance, or head
snapping performance, the parts must work together and complement each
other. Figuring out what works with what, and what does not is the hard
part. In today's world, some of the hard work has been done for us amateurs
by the big companies. I'd recommend two sites to visit.
http://www.edelbrock.com and http://www.holley.com . I'm not pushing either
one, but both offer some good insight into "Systems" approach to
performance. They've taken some of the guesswork out of it for us. I
personally use the information concerning their recommended cam lifts and
duration's, carb cfm's, etc. to come up with a set of specification
parameters to work within. Then do my parts shopping at the manufacturer of
my choice. Sorry about the length. Enjoy that project!!!
