I just completed my wiring project a few weeks ago with the Chevy Duty
harness for my '54 pickup. What I did before installing it was write down
all the types of connectors on the ends of each of the wires, and
double-checked them against what was actually on the truck. There was one
small modification I had to make, I think (replacing a bullet connector
with an O-connector or something like that), but it also helped me get
familiar with the harness before installation.
I also picked up a bunch of washers, O- and spade-connectors, and bullet
connectors (male & female), as well as some plastic wire ties (going for
simplicity, not authenticity) from the hardware store.
Some sort of light for underneath the dash & under the vehicle will be
VERY useful -- I found that one of those "Photon Lights" (little
high-powered LED lights for camping and whatnot, get 'em at your hardware
or camping store) worked perfect, because I could hold it in my mouth &
aim it at whatever I was working on under the dash. I couldn't find a
good spot to stick a clamp-on lamp where it would light up the back of the
instrument cluster without getting in my way. I suppose a biking or
caver's head lamp would work, too.
Removing the seats also helps when working under the dash, especially if
you're not too flexible, like myself.
