Besides your steering box, check the drag link and the tie rod ends.
It's pretty common in these trucks to have wear in these areas.
Changing the drag link made a world of difference in mine. 

Put the front end up on stands and have someone rock the wheel back 
and forth.  You should see, hear, or feel movement if something is 
wrong.

Replacement parts can be had from the usual vendors and maybe NAPA.

Won't comment on how to adjust or rebuild the steering box, others 
on the list have done this.
