In early April I posted a message saying that my 216 engine on my '51 1/2
ton p/u was running badly. Specifically the truck started and idled well to
begin with. After bringing the engine
up to temperature (180 degrees) I started down the street and everything is
working great. Choke was then pushed "in" all the way to the "off"
position.
and engine suddenly sputtered and boged down while going thru the low end of
each gear.

I finally got everything running OK this afternoon.

I took the Rochester carb off and took it apart. There was some gunk in the
bottom of the bowl that I cleaned out with carb cleaner. I also ran a fine
piece of stainless steel wire thru the jets (a guitar string) and blasted
things out with more carb cleaner. I also added a fuel filter in the fuel
line. Took the truck out for a one hour ride this afternoon and all seems
to be running well again. Thanks for all of the suggestions.
