I have not done the switch you are referring to but have installed a tilt
in my other old truck with the mustang rack and pinion. that had a one
piece unit.  I suspect you will have to cut the column shaft and then I
would  mill a double D on the steering box shaft . You will need to
purchase two u-joints and the necessary steering shaft material to mate
them together.  As long as there is no more then 30 degrees of bend for
the u joints you are done. Since it is a straight shot that should not be
an issue. Then you need to fabricate or purchase a steering column
