The 55 - 59 GMC trucks had an optional in-dash tach made by Sun. A Sun tach
could also
be added to the Chevy trucks with a cup-mounted unit clamped-on the steering
column ( or
a hole in the dash if you were extreme).

The Sun tachs were designed to use a transmitter that was powered by two AA
size mercury
batteries...which are no longer legal in this country...though some people tell
me you
can still "get" them. Someone also already sells a transmitter conversion that
is in
the $200 range.

I've come up with a clean way to make a conversion kit that will be radically
cheaper
(final cost TBD) than what is now on the market with no visible wiring changes
at the
transmitter. Someone from the list that has NOS GMC parts is going to test
installation
and performance for me this fall.

Would anyone be interested in this kit? You would still need a transmitter and
it would
need to be the correct one for your engine...though I think I understand what's
going on
well enough to make any transmitter fit any spec.

In the process, I've also figured out how to recalibrate the various Sun tachs
to the
range used on the TF trucks. I may also try silkscreening the gage face to the
approximately correct font/color.

If this works, I think I may have a family of products for the old trucks based
on
similar concepts.

I won't be pestering you guys with repeated requests.

PS--For the ole-trucks list, I did clear this with Miq first.

Let me know if anyone would be interested.

Thanks,

Mark Noakes
