With the acid etch quite a while but the primer surfacer, will draw water 
and thus cause rust under it. Remember I am not a painter and you want to 
talk to the pros at the local paint supply store. The seal coat was used to 
prevent any of the under lying colors to bleed thorough to the top coat, 
that is why he used it, it also sealed the bondo and any other paint that 
was applied.
