Thanks to all who helped in this one.
Sears had the 1-5/16" socket + adapter for
my 1/2" wrench.
The engine was out of the car already (came
to me that way).  I used the piece of wood
between crank & block.  A 2x4 worked just
fine.
Since I didn't have an air compressor / impact
wrench, I tried the breaker bar approach
with my little self pulling back on a 3ft bar
and my dad standing on the engine (well, almost)
and it worked!!
Now the engine is halfway stripped and it's
time to start examining all this interesting
stuff to see what is bad :)
