Forgive my lack of attention but last week I kind of glossed over the
thread on bicycle cable used for accelerator cable. Naturally, the cable
on my Bugeye went Sunday morning on the bagels/NY Times run. Limped it
home at 35 mph with the idle cranked up on the SU's (try that with your
fancy fuel injection!). Anyway, what was the bottom line on bicycle cable?

The bottom line was that it works. I replaced the cable only, not the
sheath. There was a concern mentioned about certain outer cable coverings
(what I'm calling a sheath) suffering meltdown under hot operating
conditions if they are plastic lined. I used my original one. I found a
cable at a bicycle specialty shop which had the (almost) same end on it.
Cheap!

There was also advice to put solder on the end of the cable if you trim it,
to prevent future fraying. And I believe the recommended method of cutting
the cable is with tin-snips (or to deliver a single sharp blow using the
appropriate chisel).
