Bob, Tom, et al;

The car is drying very well! We removed all carpet and have taken the
leather off the seats. The engine runs, but does have a miss. I've
changed the oil three times and it still comes out milky!

Tom Kovacs called Saturday with some suggestions to straighten the
steeling, Probably a bent control arm or trunion. Minor bent metal
under the car, and the exhaust is bent and should be replaced.

The unfortunate part is the insurance! It seems that my agent is
sugesstng NOT filing a claim, as in Illinois submerged cars must be
totalled. If it can be totaleled and I keep the car that could be an
option, my agent is checking. I also may be caught with the
agreed/stated value situation. At this point I don't remember which
is which, but the way the agent talked I have the wrong one. You can
bet that I will change companies very soon. I have 6 cars insured
with him and I would think he wold be interested in keeping my business.

For those that need to know, daughter Mell parked the car on a hill
outside the hotel at Conclave. SHe left it in gear and set the hand
brake. The clutch was slipping all week (trailered the car to Michigan)
and the hand brake will not hold the car by itself. The car rolled
down the hill, turned right, missed a fire hydrant and rolled into a
pond. The dash was the only significant part of the car not under water.

It took over 2 hours to get the car out. First attempts using a whinch
on a Suburban failed when the wooden ramps sifted after the rear wheels
were out. The ramp jammed in the front end and took 3/4 hour to get
the remainder of the car out. Tom Kovacs did take charge of the initial
attempt to get the car out, he removed spome clothing and jumped in the
water with many others to get the car out.

The car and Mell will survive! It just may be a little more of a hassle
then I first expected.

By the way Mell did get a 2nd place in both the gymkana and speed run
for women in a BT7.

Check your insurance!

Bob
