The plate that the outer end of the weights attach to is permanently
connected to the distributor shaft. To remove, you gotta extract the whole
assembly.  Drive out the pin that retains the driving dog at the end of the
shaft. The distributor shaft and plate can then be withdrawn from the
distributor body.

Upon re-assembly remember to time the driving dog to the points cam. I make
stake marks with a punch to help me remember what goes where. A punch mark
on the gear/dog and a corresponding alignment punch mark on the bottom of
the shaft should do it.
