Mark,

This was NOT an April Fool's joke.  It really did occur.  However, I should
have mentioned that all the cars and keys were 1966 and earlier, with the
ignition switch mounted on the dash rather than the later ones that lock
the steering wheels.  The 5 keys all had the same basic shape and length,
but were all cut differently, but they still all turned on all of the
ignitions.
