high rpm is all in the preperation and balance.  a hardened crank.  polished
rods.  crank shaft oil scrapers and oil pan baffles to deter oil from
splashing up on the rotating mass( crank/rods) while running.  you wouldnt
believe how much power is lost in a motor due to oil splashing around in a
motor while it is running.  the name of the game is to produce as much power
as possible , and sacrifice as little as possible to drag and friction.
this will yeild transfering the power going where you want it.. the rear
wheels.  there are a lot of things wich can hamper a small engine wich in a
big motor are over come by shear size.  a small motor requires evry
advantage to reduce reciprocating weight and streamline rotating mass.
evrything gets polished to aid in the oil return to the pan and lightened to
so there is less effort to make it run.  the result is a high rpm, very
responsive engine.   the choice of cam(many variables), piston
type(compression ratio), amount to shave off the head and block(at head
gasket surface) , type of rocker arms,  valve springs, valves,  and even
distributor are all contributing factors to limit or assist in creating
horse power.  this all aplies to any engine.  but small cc engines really
respond well to a lot of T.L.C. in preperations.  in the end you have a
giant killer in sheeps clothes!  but it does not come in a spray can or by
purchasing a spefic cam like the chevy boys do it.    oh yes also a
seriously ported head and good exhaust system also are big factors in the
power being generated . so lots of preperation and homework some really big
mistakes( best remembered and hardest learned) result in making some serious
modifications reliable enough to go forth and slay giants!    chuck.
