My friend has got a real nice old (1950 something I think) beetle that he
loves to death... and he cant stand the idea of the 'new" bug. Its true it
doesn't have much at all in common with the old bug... all the advantages of
the old beetle are completely gone with the new. Its basically a Jetta with
bugish body on it. He thinks its a complete insult to the name beetle. Gimme
a screwdriver, some duct tape and a couple wrenches I can rebuild a
beetle... Im serious too.

Toyota is maybe planning a "new" Land Cruiser... looks very much like my
model but mediacore off road capabilities and its got "SUV" written all over
it. Who wants Sports in a Utility Vehicle? not me.

This retro thing is maybe kinda fun, but seriously... these new versions of
old cars are often insults to the original. The only exception maybe is the
MGF which I haven't seen or heard much about... but perhaps this just isn't
some motor company trying to cash in on the retro fad.

Of Course I don't know how Donald Healey would feel about this... however In
my opinion, I don't think he would appreciate it.

replicas are one things... but "replacements" are another...
