Listers, no need to take offense, none intended.

The bottom line here is that these are still interesting cars, moreso than
we've seen for a long time. And if these cars make people happy, makes them
take the long way home, etc, then what harm is being done. Yeah, maybe I
coulda bought a Miata, but I wanted the real thing. >>

Tom,

A well spoken (typed) soliloquy. Being 26, I think you should know that
there are many younger members on these lists, some probably younger than
driving age. We oldsters (I'm only 49) need to encourage your participation
in Classic Car preservation, and we need to impart our knowledge so that you
have the know-how to keep 'em running.

It is easy for us to forget that there are some (few?) decent new cars for
enthusiasts out there. The Miata being one that I could live with. Most,
however, are very expensive. Surely the Viper is a sports car. I can't
afford any BMW either.

While my children were growing, I couldn't keep an LBC, but I always missed
driving and working on them. Now my kids are out of high school, and I am
once again working on an MG Midget. The simplicity of them is so incredible
attractive that we can probably be assured of welcoming a new generation of
enthusiasts to take over for us when we can no longer lift a spanner, and
head for the big pub in the sky.

Now, the only thing we have to do is to change your screen name and get that
Jetta out of there!
