Jason, my engine (recently rebuilt -- so probably no carbon buildui)
was doing the same thing (also back-firing during over-run).  I
richened the SUs a few flats and both problems were solved.  Then
again, my carbs are pitifully worn (leak oil, blood, etc) and I'm a
pitiful carb tuner.
