tach induction loop

My Bugeye has been changed over to negative ground and totally rewired, and
has an induction-loop tach from a later (possibly '67) Spridget. The tach is
pretty flaky and inaccurate. I noticed that the induction mounting appears
to be big enough for the wire to pass through it twice, but my wire only
passes through once.

Is the induction wire supposed to loop around and pass through the hole
twice?
