I have a semi-related question for those of you that live in California (I
live
in Michigan).

My brother in California has a Toyota Land Cruiser that I want to buy and
bring
to Michigan. He hasn't driven it in about six years and it isn't currently
registered. The problem is he can't find the title. The California DMV
won't
reissue a title unless he re-registers the vehicle, gets it smogged, and
pays
all of the back registrations, which amounts to about $2000 in fees. If he
had
the title I could transfer the title and get a license plate here in
Michigan,
and then drive it back here. It seems kinda silly to pay California $2000
for a
title and plate that we're going to use just long enough to drive out of the
state.

Any ideas?
