As a certifiable mini-nut, I'll fill you in, vaguelly. The motor is a
Chrysler-developed 1700cc transverse alloy unit made in Argentina or Brazil.
The S version will be super/turbo-charged and come at least 6 months later. More
likely a year.
Of all the Rover holdings, the Mini is the only thing they kept when the deal
went sour. A tribute?

BMW/Rover really tried to honor the old mini with styling cues head to tail, but
the car is no mini. It might be nice, but if you can lay your hands on a real
one in good shape, go for it. Mk I Ss go for a large premium already. There are
good books, like "The Original M<ini Cooper", that help tell a bogus one from
the real thing.

I am on my 12th mini and raced 2 of them (SCCA C-Sedan and CSR+paved ovals) over
a period of 8 years.
