Tommy,

yes, 145s were stock and the widest I would go is 165/70 on your narrow rim.
This size is a good upgrade from stock on any kind of stock Spridget rim.

Once you go to wider rims, you are limited by the rear fenders especially if
you lower it,  unless you have a round wheelarch car.  With the right offset
wheels and maybe a Panhard rod, 175/60s will probably fit.  185/60s are
usually too big.

The problem is that in sizes less than 185/60, you won't fit any true
performance tires, for one exception:

The ultimate tire for a Spridget might be the Yoko A032R in 175/60.  This
tire you can use on the race track as well.
