Just a note to amuse the cognoscenti . . .

I'm still working towards the home stretch on the complete reassembly of my
'71 Midget (disassembly started back in '86). And of course, first time
I've attempted anything like this; but I've been working on it with good
attention to detail and I'm proud of the way it's turning out. It's been
completely stripped, body panels, paint, new wiring harness, rebuilt
engine, 5-speed conversion, frontline spridget suspension, etc etc ad
nauseum.

So it's coming along nicely, and today I get a battery and carefully place
it in position. Connect the ground cable. Ensure proper fit. Check twice.
Wait for cars to go by, until complete silence falls. Carefully listening,
touch the hot cable to the hot terminal. Hear no popping fuses, frying
wires, or anything untoward. Pause for a couple minutes to monitor the
situation.  All is quiet.  Step briskly to the driver's side of the car;
brace myself. Reach for the light switch to see if the lights power up.
Nothing happens. Oh, wait, that's the fan switch. Reach towards the OTHER
light switch. Pause for a deep breath. Turn the light switch to the first
position. Jump back in horror as starter engages. (Har har!)

I thought that was pretty funny. After I got over it, tried some of the
other switches. Nothing much works but the wipers - and the drivers side
wiper rotates the opposite direction of the other two. Har har again! Must
have the drive box installed upside down . . .

Left a message for my Dad, knowing he'd be amused. He left a message back,
asking "what happened when you pressed the horn?". Funny guy - must be
genetic.

Anyways, nothing too traumatic! Fun and excitement, that's what I think
these cars are good for.
