i like using the local redi strip shop. 1 layer or 10 layers of paint it
all comes off. bondo, lead weatherstrip adhesive, glue and grease all goes
too! and rust is gone also. leaves a finish after the final wash you can
prime on. it has it's set backs though. it is not cheap but when you
consider the time saved it really is not that expensive. but if all you
look at is dolars and cents......well.it's a bit costly. as for a final
finish? that i believe is a location related thing. in high heat and
serious direct sunlight areas a difrent approach might be takes than in the
north east or north west. epoxy based catalised or catalised enamel or
urethane or laquer....or what ever. al have their redeeming qualities and
handling concerns. i'm not one to preech on specific types of finish. the
real name of the game is final preperation prior to paint! a smooooooth
surface! lots of sanding and time for all body work to "shrink back" after
all the primer work is finished. all the solvents must be allowed to come
out of any work that has been done . or you will have some very
disappointing results after the paint is applied and it dries about 1-3
months down the road.... the secret is time. lots-o-time! no rushing or
it will show you rushed.

chuck.
